2009 CMU Workshop: "Strange Days" July 9-12, Harding University Searcy, AR

The 2009 CMU Workshop is fast approaching, and excitement is in the air!

If you have attended a CMU workshop before, you already know this is a quality event. If you have not, let me urge you to join us this summer.

Since 2006, campus ministers, students, and elders from all over the United States have been challenged and blessed by the CMU workshop. 2009 marks our fourth year, and this one is shaping up to be the best one yet!

Last year, we ran out of seating the first night we met together. We promise not to let that happen again.

So come on - join the crowd! You'll be blessed, and your student leaders will too.

Oh, and bring your elders this year! We have sessions planned specifically for them. We'll also be rockin' through a Sunday morning (July 12th) to enjoy worship with one another before coming to a close at noon.

Get the rest of the details you need by visiting this website's workshop page, by emailing CampusMinistryUnited@Gmail.com with specific questions, or by visiting our Facebook event page for the 2009 workshop and posting questions on the wall.

Blessings to you, and we'll hope to see you at Harding in July!

2008 Update: CMU Plants Coast to Coast

"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." Luke 10:2

The words of Jesus are still true today, and here at CMU we're in the habit of praying for harvesters.

With the world population totalling 6.5 billion, more people are living today than ever before. Tomorrow that number will only increase! Today's universities are grooming the next generation of leaders who are destined to influence every aspect of modern society, and we believe it is God's will that all people be saved (1 Tim. 2:4).

Our goal, quite simply, is to impact global spirituality in the name of Jesus by impacting tomorrow's global leaders through establishing effective campus ministries. These ministries serve as evangelistic outposts on the front lines of culture speaking the message of Jesus Christ in truth and in love. We're not interested in sheltering college students from Satan. On the contrary - we aim to make them dangerous to him and work to claim souls for Christ that Satan would otherwise claim for himself.

We believe we're in a battle, and are pleased to report that since CMU was founded in 2005 three new evangelistic ministries have formed in Miami, FL, Corpus Christi, TX, and Manhattan, NY. A fourth ministry plant is scheduled for a 2009 launch in San Francisco, CA, and another minister is currently in training preparing to plant in another location (yet to be named).

Meet the Ministry Planters

Orlando & Devrena Henlon - Christians In Action (CIA) - Miami, Florida

Orlando & Devrena currently serve as campus ministers through the Sunset Church of Christ in Miami, FL. The Sunset Church decided to move into the realm of campus ministry and hire a full time campus minister after CMU board member Lynn Stringfellow met with their elders urging them to do so.

To date, Orlando has been on staff with the Sunset church for about two years, and several students are Christians today as a result.

Orlando & Devrena, keep up the good work!

Kyle Mason Swann - Acts 29 - Manhattan, New York

Kyle Swann gave his life to Christ after members of CIA Tampa shared the Good News of Jesus with him. After being an active part of the Tampa ministry for over a year, Kyle was awarded a scholarship to attend The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts  which he accepted.

Prior to his move to New York, Kyle attended a CMU Workshop at Harding University, and left highly motivated engage in the battle himself. After arriving in New York and placing membership at the Manhatten Church of Christ, Kyle started Acts 29 - an evangelistic young adult ministry serving the students of various colleges in the area.

Kyle was a presenter at the 2008 CMU Workshop, and did an outstanding job.

Clint & Kelsey Hill - Christians In Action (CIA) - Corpus Christi, Texas

Clint & Kelsey Hill arrived in Corpus Christi, TX, in June of 2008. As they began to look for a church in the area to attend, they had no idea the plans God had in store for them. Clint had a background in campus ministry having studied theology at Eastern New Mexico University while being part of the campus ministry there.

When he and Kelsey walked into the doors of the Arlington Heights Church of Christ and told them they were interested in working with college students, they had no idea the leadership was looking to hire a full time campus minister. You see, CMU board members had been in regular contact with the Arlington Heights leadership discussing the need for an effective campus ministry in Corpus. Clint and Kelsey showed up at just the right time, and the ministry is alive and on fire!

Several people have given their lives to Jesus just this semester, and no doubt many more will in the future. The Lord is doing amazing things in Corpus!

Wes & Airiel Woodell - Christians In Action (CIA) - San Francisco, California

Wes & Airiel Woodell were both converted to Christ in Tampa, FL, through CIA Tampa. After spending a year in Tampa as a ministry apprentice, Wes & Airiel moved to Searcy, AR, where Wes earned a degree in Bible & Ministry from Harding University.

During their time at Harding, the Woodells were approached by Marvin Crowson, Harding faculty member and director of OutReach America, about an opportunity to plant a campus ministry through a church seeking revival in San Francisco, CA.

The Woodells plan to move to San Francisco in January of '09 to work with the Lake Merced Church of Christ in planting a campus ministry at San Francisco State University. While many individuals and churches are involved in supporting the Woodells financially, their work is officially sponsored and overseen by the Austin Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood, TX.

For more information on the activities surrounding the ministry plant in San Francisco, please visit the ministry blog: West Coast Witness.

Jeff Keely - Ministry Leader in Training

Jeff Keely has been an active member of CIA Tampa for several years now and formally became a ministry apprentice in July of '08. Jeff is currently being groomed for ministry under the watchful eye of Lynn Stringfellow and other leaders of the Bay Area Church of Christ, and is interested in leading a future CMU campus ministry or campus church plant.
